In this article, we will focus on the different ways to target users based on a date. First, we will focus on the way to target a date according to activity criteria, and then we will take examples of date segmentation based on custom criteria.

Targeting on a date, based on user's activity
Accengage offers you a certain number of default segmentation criteria. Some of these criteria refer to the user's activity, such as the install date or the last opened date.
There are variables on date format criteria: "recency of data", "compare with a date", "period". Each variable is completed by an operator "less than", "more than", "equal to", "includes", "does not include". This system allows to target on a specific date or time period.
The field "install date" can be used for example in an onboarding campaign. By creating several segments at different strategic stages, the "install date" field can help you guide your users to an optimized use of your application.
You can find below an example of an onboarding campaign that can be realized only with the "install date" field or also in addition to custom fields.
- Install date less than 1 hour - "Welcome on board".
- Install date equal to 24 hours - "Discover features".
- Install date equal to 48 hours - "Create an account".
- Install date equal to 72 hours - "Personalize your app".
You have the possibility to schedule the sending of your message in order to create a recurrent and automated push campaign. Please find all information on scheduled sending in this documentation.
The field "last open" can be used on its own or in addition to custom fields. The "last open" allows stimulating inactive users. For example, you can target users who didn't open your app in the last 30 days. Then you can remind them that you're still here, with a push campaign.
In the e-commerce sector, it is relevant to match this field with a custom field, such as "last product view". With both combined, you can revive the interest of inactive users, for a specific product, available in your app or website.
Targeting on a date, based on custom activity
All the custom activities have to be indexed in your app and declared in the Accengage dashboard. You can find all the integration methods regarding the custom fields, in our iOS, Android, and Web documentation.
You can find below two examples of date segmentation, based on the custom activity.
Segmenting on the birthdate is pretty simple to set up. On each day, the segment will update the profiles according to their birthdate. The birthdate has to be similar, in day and month, to the date of the day.
By scheduling a daily sending for the birthday notification, you will be able to send automatically a personalized message for your customer's birthday. It allows you to build a relationship with your customers. It'll remind them that you're close to them in the important moments of their lives.
Last product added to cart date / Last purchase date
Combined, those criteria enable to create an abandoned basket campaign. Indeed, it will target users who added an item to the shopping cart in the last few days AND who didn't buy any product during the same time period. With those date criteria, we are able to revive the abandoned basket.
In addition, you could create several custom fields based on a date, according to your activity and your needs.
